# Floating Panels

Overlay panels that stay visible while you work in the editor

Floating panels let you keep important tools visible while working in the editor. Unlike docked panels that take up layout space, floating panels overlay your workspace and can be positioned anywhere.

## Available Floating Panels

Invoke includes four floating panels:

| Panel | Shortcut (Mac) | Shortcut (Windows) | Purpose |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| **Agent Sidebar** | Cmd+Shift+L | Ctrl+Shift+L | Chat with the Agent |
| **Terminal** | Cmd+Shift+J | Ctrl+Shift+J | Run commands |
| **Git Panel** | Cmd+Shift+G | Ctrl+Shift+G | Version control |
| **Search** | Cmd+Shift+S | Ctrl+Shift+S | Project-wide search |

## Opening and Closing

### Command Palette

1. Open Command Palette with **Cmd+Shift+P** (Mac) or **Ctrl+Shift+P** (Windows)
2. Search for the panel name:
   - "Toggle Floating Agent Sidebar"
   - "Toggle Floating Terminal"
   - "Toggle Floating Git Panel"

### Close Button

Each floating panel has an **X** button in the top-right corner of its header.

### Header Controls

| --- | --- | --- |
| **Maximize** | Square | Expand panel to fill window |
| **Restore** | Overlapping squares | Return to previous size (after maximize) |
| **Close** | X | Close the floating panel |

### Resize Handle

The diagonal handle in the bottom-right corner lets you resize the panel by dragging.

## Moving and Resizing

### Repositioning

Click and drag the **header bar** to move the panel anywhere on screen.

- Panel stays within window boundaries
- Cursor changes to indicate drag mode
- Release to set new position

### Resizing

Click and drag the **corner handle** (bottom-right) to resize.

Each panel has minimum size limits:

| Panel | Minimum Size |
| --- | --- |
| Agent Sidebar | 350 x 400 px |
| Terminal | 400 x 300 px |
| Git Panel | 300 x 400 px |
| Search | 350 x 300 px |

### Maximizing

Click the **maximize button** to expand the panel to fill the entire window. Click **restore** to return to the previous size and position.

## Floating vs Docked Panels

| Aspect | Floating | Docked |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **Position** | Anywhere on screen | Fixed in layout |
| **Layout impact** | None (overlays content) | Takes up space |
| **Visibility** | Toggle on/off | Always visible when in layout |
| **Use case** | Quick access while editing | Dedicated workspace |

When you open a floating panel, the corresponding docked panel automatically hides to avoid duplication.
